We had a crappy weather weekend. The good news is the winds have shifted as of Sunday and we can look forward to slightly less crappy weather in the coming weeks.
Friday I was supposed to meet friends in the afternoon but everyone's kids were sick. So Munchkin, having finally gotten better from a random fever the day before, went to the Speel-a-long, the open play session that is a euro for coffee and is at the local neighborhood center. These things are great - Munchkin has a great time, gets exhausted, and I get to see what kind of toys might be interesting for her in the future. We had lunch, or rather I had lunch and Munchkin refused to touch it, and then she went down for a nap. Munchkin is oh so most certainly in the toddler pickiness phase of eating. This time I made the mistake of putting in garlic and it was evidently very strong garlic. But even tried and true foods are rejected these days. Part of it is that she is picky, but she is also a bit sick, and she is.. TEETHING. The dread word and today I made visual confirmation of that thin white sheen that are teeth just under the gums. Earlier teeth did not bother her but I guess now that she is older she is more cognoscente. Anyways, that's all a long winded answer for saying she ate hardly anything all day and then we put her to bed, had burritos, and watched Sleepwalk with Me, which I highly recommend.
Saturday it was frickin' cold. I made pancakes, and I finally got them right! Good, American pancakes mind you. Despite much worldly travel they are still my favorite kind. I had had trouble with recipes in the past and I tried one from my old, scary James Beard book from the 50's, and it was perfect. Of course the Munchkin would not eat any of them, even after her father went out to get real maple syrup! I fear at this rate we will lose those sweet, chubby cheeks faster than I'd hoped. But this is also exactly the ate they stop eating as much, alas. We went out to do the shopping and got snowed on, ran back home, had a lunch similar to yesterday wherein the child ate nothing. After nap time, we schlepped out to Amstelveen to visit our friends C and D, who just moved out to the 'burbs to a big fantastic house. We had pizza and cake, a very nice applesauce cake I will totally make again, and then we didn't tarry as both our kids were not feeling well. Got home, stuffed a paracetemol up Munchkin's bum for the teething pain and went to bed ourselves shortly thereafter.
Sunday was wet. This time wet is good because it means it is warmer finally! It rained all morning, I made granola to go with some splash farmer's yogurt (from a real farm!) we picked up. We stayed inside, Munchkin didn't have any lunch and then she didn't have much of a nap. But she did have an excellent time at swimming lessons. What do you team kids under 2 to do in the pool? Not a whole lot - basically you get them used to the water, in the eyes and on their heads, and today we were trying to get them to blow bubbles. Evidently harder than it looks. We had a good time but the kid was losing it by the end and we only got to speak briefly with the parents and sister before she lost it.
Ah ah, but I got a recipe from my cousin (thanks!) for soupe au pistou. Originally I was going to have friends over last weekend and we were going to have that, but a stomach flu got in the way. So I made it this weekend. Excellent! And so easy - though does take a lot of chopping time, if that's not your thing it might be a bit of a drag. The only issue was that I got my hands on some seriously ass-kicking garlic which rather overpowered everything. But I'd make it again in a heartbeat.

I'm so glad you liked the pistou! It's one of my favorites, too, although you're right that it takes some chopping time.
I can't guess what you mean by "splash farmer's yogurt". Does the splash refer to the yogurt or the farmer?
I think I am just excited about finding farmer's anything!
Oh and the pistou was even better the next day.
Ah, picky eaters, yeah, Rose is totally there, but when she is hungry she eats, otherwise everything is 'no'! Does Munchy like oatmeal with raisins? That is very popular here. Yogurt? Eggs with cottage cheese? V-8? Cheese sticks? crackers with peanut butter? Just thoughts on things that have protein and some nutritional value.
Lauren, I will ahve to try the eggs with cottage cheese! She is in a stage where she may like something one day and not the next. I think that'll settle into preferences and then we can start to bend the meals a little in favor of those (within reason!)
